MWRA Conducts Water Main Repair Work on Section 37 (East Boston & Chelsea)

2/23/25- The repair has been completed and system operations are back to normal.

2/22/25- The MWRA recently found a leak within its Section 37 of the water distribution system located in Chelsea. In order to repair the leak, Section 37 has been isolated, resulting in lower water pressure and/or discolored water within the City of Boston’s East Boston neighborhood. Currently, the Authority is working with the Boston Water and Sewer Commission regarding the issue. At this time, the repair work is expected to be completed by early next week.

Important to note, water service to residential homes, businesses, and other properties will continue to be provided while the repair work is underway. Should discolored water occur, please run faucets until water returns to normal clarity (it can take up to approximately 10 minutes) before drinking or using for dishes, laundry, or other household needs. Water pressure issues should be resolved automatically following the repair work.
